About This Experience

Immerse yourself in centuries of rice culture. Step barefoot into terraced paddies with a hand-forged curved sickle (dakatta), harvest golden sheaves of heirloom rice alongside farmer Sunil, learn threshing dances (kamatha traditions), and share a communal farmer’s feast in the field hut.

"Rice is sacred in Demada Oya. The threshing floor (kamatha) possesses its own secret ritual vocabulary, designed over thousands of years to ward off bad omens and honor the deities who gift rain and fertility to the valley."
