Getting to Demada Oya

Situated in the Matale district foothills, Demada Oya is easily accessible from Kandy (approx. 45 mins) and Colombo (approx. 3.5 hours).

By Private Vehicle or Taxi

From Kandy, take the A9 highway north toward Matale town. At the signposted Demada Oya junction, turn east along the scenic rural valley road. Total travel time from Kandy is approximately 40–50 minutes. Free on-site parking is available at all verified homestays and the Community Hall.

By Public Bus

Take any regular Colombo–Kandy express bus, then transfer to the Matale local bus (Route 593 or A9). From Matale central bus stand, local feeder buses depart every 30 minutes directly to Demada Oya village square.

Local Tuk-Tuk Coordination

Verified village three-wheeler drivers operate at standardized, transparent rates from Matale railway station. Contact the village coordination desk on WhatsApp (+94 77 804 6885) to arrange a pickup.
