About This Experience

Gather around a crackling outdoor courtyard hearth as dusk settles over the hills. Sip spiced ginger tea sweetened with pure jaggery while village elder Upali shares oral legends, supernatural guardian folklore, and the haunting, poetic chants of Pel Kavi—sung by farmers guarding night crops in elevated tree huts.

"Before modern screens and electricity arrived, storytelling was the living memory of Demada Oya. Pel Kavi poems were composed in high wooden tree houses to ward off wild elephants, stave off bone-chilling cold, and express love, solitude, and reverence for nature."
